The Black Education Research Collective (BERC) is a community of researchers, scholars, educators, community leaders, creatives, and organizers focused on transforming Black education, broadly defined.
Founded in 2017 by education leadership and policy scholar, Sonya Douglass, the Black Education Research Collective (BERC) is committed to empowering and transforming Black communities through education for every learner and leader at every level so they may realize their purpose and potential.
We believe education is essential to cultivating and sustaining the social, emotional, academic, intellectual, and spiritual development of peoples of African descent and that this education begins with the knowledge of self. It also requires an understanding of the role of culture, agency, leadership, and ethics/enduring values as essential to Black education in service of learning and liberation.
